The Hebrew word “Hesed” (חסד) is a difficult word to translate into English because it has a range of meanings. Hesed is not just a feeling, but an action. Throughout the Hebrew Bible, we see Hesed translated as love but also in a number of different ways; steadfast love, mercy, kindness, faithfulness and goodness. While these synonyms develop our understanding, they only just skim the surface of this multifaceted, rich word.
Hesed is faithful, loyal, and love put into action. It is one of the most fundamental characteristics of God.

The Hebrew word “Emet” (אֱמֶת) is also a word that is difficult to translate into English because it has a range of meanings. It is one of several Hebrew words for truth. The word emet is related to the Hebrew expression “amen,” which means “that’s the truth!”
